Sweater Weather…

It has been warm again in San Antonio — not exactly sweater weather. So, I am vicariously living through everyone who actually gets to enjoy real fall.

When the weather finally decides to chill (literally) I can’t wait to wear a cozy sweater, comfy jeans, and boots. Until then, I’ll wear sleeveless tops, shorts, and a bead of sweat…

I rounded up my favorite sweaters of the season! Enjoy!

Vested Interest…

The weather in San Antonio has been unseasonably cool for September, and it actually, kind of, feels like Fall.

My favorite fall wardrobe staple is a good vest. I have a quilted black puffer vest that I love to pair with anything from yoga leggings to jeans and boots.

Here are a few of my favorites…

Meet Fred…

Meet the newest member of our family — Fred!

Fred is a three month blue/brindle French bulldog and we could not be happier with our new addition.

Hubby and I weren’t really planning on getting a dog, but we had both been feeling the affects of the rat race of our profession and wanted to shake things up a bit.

We found ourselves at the pet store one evening and asked to play with Fred, whose pet store name was Meatball.

Fred had a terrible “adoption interview.” He was so hyper and crazy that we asked for him to be put back in his cage within a few minutes. But for some crazy reason, we were drawn to this little guy. We requested to play with him again and this time he was a bit more calm and his quirky personality came out.

We’ve had Fred for eleven days now and I am so happy we decided to make him part of our family. He’s a puppy, so he is a ton of work, but I am loving every minute of life with Fred!

What do you think? Isn’t he the cutest little guy!?

The San Antonio Gas Crisis and a Shirt Dress…

Today was a bizarre day. A few weeks ago, Hubby and I completely gutted a kitchen in one of our investments, and today we decided to take all of the debris to the bulky waste collection center (aka the dumps). We dropped off our load and we headed back for more, when our gas light came on in the little work truck we’re borrowing from my in-laws.

Usually, this isn’t a problem, and we would just head to the nearest gas station and fill up. However, San Antonio and other parts of Texas are having major issues with the gas supply. There is not a shortage of gas, but because of Hurricane Harvey, gas is not being delivered to stations as often as usual.

Most of the gas stations are without gas. I actually had to call around to find a gas station that still had gas. We ended up waiting in line for 2 and a half hours. It was insane and I now know why riots break out in times of crisis. It could have gone faster, but people kept cutting in line. There was even a guy selling gas out of a plastic jug on the side of the road — which was intriguing, but for the fact that he was smoking near his make shift gas station…

The photos below have nothing to do with the gas crisis, but my bright red shift dress makes me happy, and I need a total mood booster after the day I’ve had so far…

My Favorite Dresses from the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale…

The Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale started this morning. The line was brutally long, but the site didn’t crash — which was a major plus! Once I got in, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of items and sizes that were available. I bought an else top and a pair of palazzo pants, which I am so excited about!

Here are some of my favorite dresses that are still available…

Did y’all shop the sale? What did you buy? I’d love to know, so please leave a comment below…

Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale…

Woo hoo! The Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale is finally here and I am so excited!

Lilly Pulitzer only has two sales a year — one in January and one in August. This is the only time I buy Lilly, because regular price Lilly is out of my budget.

The upcoming sale runs Monday, August 28th at approximately 8 AM Eastern Time through August 30th.

Here are a few tips and tricks if you’ve never shopped the sale before…

The night before the sale, log into your account on the Lilly Pulitzer website and make sure your billing, shipping, and credit card information are current. This will help with easy and speedy check out!

When you log in the morning of the sale, you will be placed a virtual line, and won’t be granted immediate access to the site. This helps avoid the site from crashing. The line goes pretty fast and historically there has been tons of merchandise to chose from. I wasn’t able to shop until the afternoon of the sale last year and there was more than enough to choose from. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your cup of coffee — and whatever you do — do not hit “refresh,” you’ll end up in the back of the line!

Once you’re on the site, shop until your heart is content, but remember — the items in your shopping cart aren’t yours until you pay for them. If you love a dress or top so much that losing it would totally ruin your day, then check out immediately — but know that you’ll be back at the end of the line if you wish to resume shopping.

What am I shopping for…

This year I am shopping with very specific items in mind, where as in years past I have browsed the sale and purchased what caught my eye. While we won’t know what products and prints will be included in the sale, I have at least narrowed down the type of products I am looking for…

Last year I purchased my first Elsa Top, which I absolutely love! I hope to snag another one in a fun print!

I am really loving the Palazzo Pants. I love comfy pants and these are way more stylish than sweats!

I’ve also been gravitating towards more casual dresses for weekend-wear like the dress I wore in this post

Are you shopping the sale? What are you on the hunt for?

Packing for an Overnight Trip & Lilly Pulitzer Pineapple Dress

Happy weekend, y’all!

Hubby and I are spending our Saturday lounging poolside at his parent’s house. We left yesterday evening after work, spent the night last night, and are coming home tonight. A quick 24 hour jaunt.

I always find it so difficult to pack for an overnight trip. Historically, I overpack and don’t use half of the stuff I bring. This time I tried to be more intentional with my packing. Here are my tips for bringing less on your next quick trip…

  1. Leave your hair products and styling tools ate home: I washed, dried, and styled my hair Friday morning, so I left my hair products and blow dryer at home. Instead, I threw a can of dry shampoo in my bag.
  2. Limit yourself to two pairs of shoes: Shoes take up tons of space. I packed a pair of athletic shoes and a pair of flip flops. This should be enough variety to get me through my short stay.
  3. Wear your travel clothes coming and going: If you can, wear the same outfit on the way to and from the destination. This eliminates excess clothes that are only worn for a few hours.

What are your travel tips for short trips?

In other news, the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale should be happening in the next few weeks. I’ll be sure to keep y’all posted with the date and more details.

I donned this Lilly Pulitzer Pineapple Dress last weekend for a backyard birthday bash for a friend.

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer (old) — shop the pineapple print, here and here; same style dress, here. Sandals: J. Crew (old) — similar | Earrings: Kendra Scott | Clutch: Coach (old) — similar

A Baby Sprinkle and Baby Gift Guide

Last month when I was in California visiting my family, my sister had a “Baby Sprinkle” to celebrate her new baby girl.

I had never heard of a “Baby Sprinkle” before, but it is a similar to a baby shower, but on a smaller scale. The mama-to-be doesn’t typically register for gifts, and the gifts that are brought are less elaborate than for the first born, with the assumption that mom doesn’t need quite as much as she did the first time around. The guest list is also smaller, with close friends and immediate family receiving invites.

My sister’s sister in-law hosted the event and it was absolutely beautiful! If y’all live in Northern California and need event planning services, you’ll want to check out K & J Wedding and Event Coordination.

The perfect way to greet guests.

A Biscuit Bar is an adorable brunch option, complete with homemade jams and gravy!

And a Yogurt Parfait station is a sweet and healthy addition.

It was a beautiful party and I am so happy I was in town to attend. I only wish I had brought something other than my iPhone with me for photos because the set up was incredible!

Since I now have two nieces and a nephew, and my sister’s new little girl to arrive in October, I’ve gotten pretty good at baby gift giving! Here are a few of my favorites…

One | Monogrammed Name Print: I ordered this two years ago for the baby shower I hosted for my sister’s first baby. It is a customizable image that is delivered to you via pdf. I had it printed and framed. It doubled as both party decor and a gift.

Two | Diapers: You can’t go wrong with bringing a pack of diapers to a baby shower. You know they will get used and most parents are more than happy to receive diapers as a gift.

Three | Sophie the Giraffe Teether: I bought this for my niece and it was a huge hit! It is the teether on the market right now, from what I have heard from my friends with kids. Plus, it is pretty cute!

Four | Jelly Cat Stuffed Animals: I love these stuffed animals. They are so soft and the sweet animals have the cutest little faces! I have purchased one for each one of my nieces and nephews and all the kids just love these stuffed animals!

Five | Good Night City Books: These books are so cute! I love sending them to out of town friends and family, as the Good Night San Antonio book showcases monuments and landmarks where I live. There are books for most states and major cities!

Six | Honest Company Products: I’ve heard so many good things about Honest Company from my friends and family with children.

Seven | Diaper Bag: If I ever have kids, this is the diaper bag I would choose!

Eight | Baby Lit Books: If you are a book nerd like me, then you’ll love these literary classics boiled down to a  children’s board book. The books have various themes like, counting, colors, emotions, and weather. They even have an Emma book, based on the Jane Austen classic, that I just bought for my new niece who will be named Emma.
